The subject of Pet ID tags seems pretty prosaic, at first glance. Then My Pet DMV got involved, bringing smiles to a lot of pet owners and their friends. Based on the notion that "too many pets are driving without a license," My Pet DMV offers a pet collar tag and wallet card styled after State Drivers Licenses. The pet's data and photo, along with owners info, is printed on durable plastic ID card stock to help pets find their way back to their owners if they become seperated.
Thusfar hundreds of Pet Owners have used the Internet online application at www.mypetdmv.com to apply for a My Pet DMV Pet Photo ID for their pets. In addition to dogs and cats, exotic pets such as parrots, horses and even a ferret have been issued their own ID card.
My Pet DMV carries the joke a little further by designating Monte the Cat, a 17 pound tabby, as it's "President & CEO". The website biography of Monte claims he was forced to organize My pet DMV as the result of an unfortunate incident of his own while behind the wheel.
"Personalized Pet ID tags are nothing new," said one pet owner asked about her purchase of a My Pet DMV Pet Photo ID. "But the idea of a Drivers License for my beagle made me laugh outloud. I guess we're so used to presenting ID for all sorts of purposes, that seeing one for my dog just struck me as funny. My friends couldn't help laughing too, when I showed it to them. I know it''s silly, that's why I bought it."
